Biography
Guil Guimaraes is a Bass player who plays upright and
electric basses. He was born in Pernambuco - Brazil,
and grew up in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, where
he graduated in Psychology at UGF-RJ. Also he was a student of School of Music at Universidade Federal da
Paraiba and Prof. Hector Jorge Rossi was his teacher. He dedicated 11 years
as a member of OSPA (Symphony Orchestra of Paraiba) performing as a bassist. He has performed and recorded with renown internationally acclaimed
artists as Jovino Santos
Neto, Elba Ramalho, Marco De Carvalho, Washington Espinola, Daniel Carvalho, Silvio Romero, Paulo Rafael, Grupo Nossa Voz,
Geraldo Azevedo, Alceu
Valença, Lucinha

and others. Also performed at Montreaux Jazz Festival, Switzerland, with Elba Ramalho
He moved to the United States
in 1995 invited by Dr. Frederik Teuber as a visiting scholar at University of South Carolina.
He moved to Seattle, Wa,
(USA)
in 2000, where he started performing in many jazz festivals as Earshot Jazz
Festival, Folklife and Bumbershoot. Also performed in other jazz festivals
like the famous Jazz Project with his Guil Guimaraes Trio. Performed and
played with many local groups and artists as Orville Johnson, Hans Teuber,
Mango Son, The Rez Trio, Mike Ivster, Jeff Busch, Naoyuki Sawada, Jose
Martines, Brian Kent, Brian Urban, Julio Jauregui, Bakra-Bata, Cantalma,
Adam, Kiko Freitas, Urban Oasis, Jud Sherwood, Tom Armstrong, Chris Stromquist,
Eric Olson, Byron Vannoy, Scott Kentron.
Lived in the USA for ten
years, where recorded his first CD, “Back Home”, in Seattle, of his own jazz originals.
He has extensive experience in music, ranging from classical latin jazz and
all kinds of Brazilian music.
In 2005 moved temporarily to Europe, where
is preparing his second CD.
